Skinny Shot Chicago​

What Is It?

We offer two options for Skinny Shot. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both once weekly weight loss medications.  Both have been used successfully under their brand names Ozempic and Monjouro for several years and are now available in their generic forms at a significant discount. Semaglutide is a glucagon like peptide (GLP-1) agonist, while Tirzepatide is a dual pathway GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Both have been approved to effectively treat obesity.

How does it work?

It does 3 things:

1) It slows gastric emptying so you fill up faster and stay full longer when you eat.

2) It shuts off Ghrelin, the ”hunger hormone” that drives our cravings for high-calorie foods.

3) It works like glucagon (a hormone) in the body and breaks down your stored fat as energy. This process helps people shed 1-3 pounds a week all while not feeling hungry or deprived. When used alongside a healthy diet and exercise routine this program creates long- term shifts to the “set point” to create and maintain sustainable long-term weight loss.

  • People who are obese (over 30 BMI) or overweight (over 25 BMI) trying to get to an ideal weight
  • People who have had plastic surgery, found themselves putting on 15-20 pounds and want to lose the weight so they can get their results back
  • People who are committed to losing weight and having a hard time controlling their diet and want a safe and effective tool

Most people are on these medications until they reach their goal, but research has shown the average person is on them for at least 6 months to a year. It can be taken long term for weight loss management. You can expect to lose 1-3 lbs per week or about 4-8 lbs per month on average. The FDA studies showed a 15-17% bodyweight loss (average 35 pounds) and they were enrolled for 68 weeks. It takes a minimum of 3 to 6 months to establish the diet and exercise changes needed in order to maintain the weight loss when coming off the medication. 

The injections are administered once a week on the same day every week. It is a small injection that goes under the skin into the subcutaneous (fat) tissue of the abdomen or thigh. It can be taken with or without food.

The most common side effects of the use of this medication include nausea, constipation, fatigue, and lack of appetite. Side effects are generally mild and are easily managed by following the provider recommendations and additional provider-assisted support. Many side effects subside after the first 4-6 weeks.

Everyone is started on the lowest dose for both medications and is titrated up each month if needed until your correct dose is reached. You want to be on the lowest effective dose since being on a higher dose does not mean more weight loss and can lead to more side effects. The correct dose for you is when you no longer feel your baseline hunger, are eating smaller meals, not having cravings or food noise, are tolerating the medication well and continuing to lose weight.

It can be covered at some facilities by insurance but we have found that many people were not being covered and therefore developed our lower cost option once the drug was available in its generic form. Pricing can be found in the infographic up above.
